The completed Dallas St. Project is integral to the revitalization of Ennis’ downtown and creates a strong foundation for new retail and residential growth and development, in addition to connecting the city’s north/south corridor with the downtown.
The new streetscape creates a modern, active and dynamic pedestrian experience with a scenic, tree-lined boulevard celebrating our city’s 19th-century heritage. Dallas St. features planters filled with native Texas flora, widened sidewalks, benches, streetlights and a fully accessible, curb-less street made of new and the century-old reclaimed clay bricks.
Major upgrades to the area’s infrastructure include the replacement of the 100-year-old water and sewer system and the installation of grease traps to protect the city’s sewers.
The City of Ennis partnered on the design of the Dallas St. Project with the Mesa Design Group of Dallas as part of its Downtown Master Plan. Construction began April 2018 and was completed Fall 2019. The Mesa Design Group was honored with an American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) 2019 Merit Award for their work on the Dallas St. Project. The City of Ennis was also recognized by the Texas Downton Association's award for Best Public Improvement in 2019 for the Dallas St. Project.
